Most of you know by now but I moved a couple of weeks ago! We moved to a different neighborhood in Chicago and I love it so much already. Since I moved, I got to redecorate my new room! It finally feels like I have an “adult room,” fully decked out and ready to go. Meanwhile we’re still putting together the rest of our apartment. Thankfully our kitchen cart gets here today to create some more space in there!
I have spent some time putting together my room and getting things for a couple of years now, so everything I have I’ve been collecting for some time. That said, I have some tips and shoppable pieces that will give you the same effect. However I am always changing my room around so I’m sure this space will look totally different in a couple of months. What can I say, I love to decorate! Let’s get started!
Bedding: As far as bedding and color scheme for my room goes, I love blue, white, and gold. I wanted to do that color scheme with my bedding as well. So, I found this great navy and white comforter sleeve from Pottery Barn Teen (whole sheet set here), and it spurred the rest of my room. I have gold sheets to match (shop them here) and white pillows as an accent, with a white bed skirt from Target. I want to get some more decorative pillows in the future, but I think the New York Apple pillow from Pottery Barn is a good start.
I love this Ikea fur rug so much I bought two! There’s one next to my bed so I can step on it when I get up and go to bed every night and morning. The other one is on my chair in the living room, which I also love and didn’t have the heart to move. My other rugs are vintage wool that I got in Phoenix on vacation. I would suggest to look at vintage stores for something similar, and I love the southwest look for my rugs. To keep them in place I have these rug underlays from Ikea and Target.
I love this little Dachshund lamp and nightstand from World Market, which is another place I go for my home decor needs. I love white furniture and since my desk and bookcase are white, I wanted my nightstand to be as well. My nightstand is from last fall so it’s gone, but I have some great options listed below!
Use Your Closet as Decor: Hooks can be your best friend in terms of function and style. I hung my bags, hats, and accessories from them. The hats and bags make for a cute little decor, and my closet organizer (similar here).
Get creative with Wall Art: Decorating my walls is definitely my favorite part of decorating. It’s always the last piece of the puzzle as far as room decor goes, but it’s my favorite part by far! I love to get creative with my wall decor and pulls from all over for it. My wall decor has vintage pieces, art that I’ve bought, or art that I’ve made myself. Here is what I use in my room that I love!
Make art out of old maps, magazine ads (Town & Country ad above), and book covers. I bought a copy of Madeline the children’s book and it looks for perfect as wall art and was one of my favorite books as a kid! Just buy a cheap frame from IkeaIkea and Target and bada boom you’ve got beautiful wall art!
My bookshelf below is also a great point of pride for me. I love the look of organizing my books by color and I think it adds a colorful, clean look to my room. I use the small top shelf as decor and a place to put my jewelry. I use organizers from the Container Store (here and here), and I love the clear lucite because they’re clean and I can see through them to look through all my jewelry at once.
Desk: Last but not least is my desk, which is probably the most important since I work from home. I needed and wanted space to do all my work and be comfortable here for hours at a time. I created a wall bulletin board by tacking a collage of inspiring postcards, cards, and other memorabilia right above my desk. I have my pen cup (an old candle, but hey it’s cute!) and some decorate books next to my lamp. I love decorative books and we have a bunch in our living room.
I love this desk but I really can’t wait to get something a little bit bigger. It’s a relatively good size and the drawers are spacious, but I have some great desks listed below and I’d love to upgrade as I continue to work from home.
Cant’ forget my career goddess voodoo doll!
