Well I am finally back from my trip! I got back Tuesday night technically, but whatever. And I absolutely loved my vacation. It was much needed and New Orleans is one of the coolest places I’ve ever been to. It’s like a weird mix of France, Italy, and a St. Louis/American city feel as well. The weather was great (only a little rain on Saturday) and the sun was much needed and severely missed as I write this now.
We did a lot of stuff in just a short amount of time though. We shopped in the French Quarter and Magazine Street, took a ghost tour, went on a house tour, and of course sampled the food and drinks of the city. We stayed at the French Market Inn which was perfect and in a great spot. It was on the south end of the Quarter, so it was far enough off of Bourbon Street (which always smells like garbage, by the way) but close enough to get to it and the rest of the Quarter.
We tried so much different food and I will do a master recap of that in a week, but man the food was good. We had beignets, Po’boys, Gumbo, cafe au lait, hurricanes, and so much more. It was truly a food tour, but we saw some sights too!
I have the highlights of all the sights we saw including to French Quarter, the fancy homes around Magazine Street, and the rest of the city that we saw via streetcar. The streetcars are so cool! I felt like we went back in time. We rode the whole line and when they turn it around, they just turn the seats around and go from there. It was cool to watch.
It was also an exhausting trip. I managed to go through four different climates in the span of a week so my allergies were freaking out by the time I headed home. When I got to the airport, I somehow lost my voice and got sick on the way home. I ended up taking a sick day Wednesday because the stupid allergies got me sick! But I’m feeling better now and am going to the doctor Monday so I’ll get it figured out.
But this trip was fantastic and I high recommend visiting New Orleans. I’ve been dying to go for years but I’m glad I waited until now to go. It wouldn’t have been quite as fun if I wasn’t over 21… Stayed tuned for more on New Orleans and all I loved about it!
