Ah mornings. It is simultaneously the best and worst time of day. Its the best because the day is just starting and you get to prepare for the day ahead. It’s also the worst time because I am not a morning person. I tried more than once but it’s just not in the cards for me. I get up around 7:40 weekdays and even that is a struggle. I’m just the kind of person that needs a lot of sleep to function, at least 8 hours a night. Nine if I’m being honest. Ten if I had my druthers…
I will never be a morning person, but I have found that having a morning routine makes it easier to get up. It’s so much that I actually enjoy my mornings. Wuuuut?! I think everyone should have a morning routine and I am going to share mine. Everyone has something that works for them but the most important thing to remember is stick to a routine. If you don’t keep up with it, it’ll be harder to maintain. No fun and way harder.
7:40 a.m. Alarm goes off – I set my alarm for 7:40 to get up and start the day. I spend a couple of minutes in bed and check my phone (a terrible habit, I know) and get up to use the bathroom.
7:45ish Work out – I work out first thing in the morning so I don’t have to worry about it later. Plus it feels good to get the blood pumping right when I wake up. It wakes me up physically as well as mentally. I am then ready to start actually doing things.
8:30 Eat breakfast – I make breakfast which is usually an egg and toast or cereal. I either make a cup of tea of coffee (depending on how tired I am!) I am usually starving after my workout so this is a very important part of my morning routine.
8:30-40 Computer work – This is the time I designate in the mornings for getting a little bit of work done before going to my other work. I go through emails, read/comment on blogs, get my social media prepped for the day, and so on. Some days I have specific projects I’m working on, but I always listen to the TODAY show while doing so! I like the voices and I get some news in for the day. I find it important to know what’s going on in the news and I like knowing what’s going on in the world before I go out into it.
9:30 Get dressed and ready for work – I work later in the morning than most, so I don’t have to leave for work until 10. I get dressed, do my hair and makeup (which doesn’t take long), and pack my lunch. I also get my bag ready for whatever I need for the day and evening depending on if I go out or something.
9:50 Leave the house – I leave for work around this time so I can catch the bus and get to work on time. And that’s it!
Do you have an interesting morning routine? I’d love to hear what works for you!
