Winter is by far my least favorite time of year. I hate it. I really do. Fall, spring, and summer are all in a dead heat for being my favorite season. Winter is very far down from the other three seasons in my book.
Now I usually keep it positive on here, but this particular topic is not something that is a positive to me. So please enjoy this post as I do my best to explain why I hate winter. I’ll try to make this as funny and satirical as I can, and I hope that you can feel my dread for this godforsaken season of dreary despair. See? Isn’t this fun?!
No. No it’s not. Why do we pretend it’s fun? The only thing that’s fun is the snow. And that’s only exciting if you don’t have to be out in it trudging around town or to work. Which you do, because unfortunately we have to go to work and out in the world sometimes.
When winter rolls around, I do an annual hibernation. I go work, I go home. I try to get out more and I inevitably do, but I’m super happy about it. I’m cold is what I am. And I’m not happy about it.
To be fair I’m cold in seventy degree weather, but that makes winter that much harder for me.
And not only is it cold, but it is windy here. Chicago is called the Windy City for a reason: it’s windy as hell. Before you think to yourself that this title is cute and kitschy, don’t. It’s not. It sucks and goes straight through every piece of clothing you pile on your clothing. Your bones get cold. It is truly bone chilling. I have nothing but disdain for the wind and the cold.
Not only is it cold and cloudy, but the sun goes at 4pm. Let me restate that: THE SUN GOES DOWN AT 4PM. There’s like eight hours of work time before it gets pitch black and I’m ready to go to bed again. At least it’s too cold for me to go anywhere so I still get the same amount of work done.
I will say though that I love snow. Especially during the holidays. There is nothing better than a White Christmas and I wish for one every year. I haven’t had one in such a long time, but we have global warming to thank for that. But that’s another topic entirely.
In short, I hate winter and I love snow from a distance. Don’t even get me started on skiing… I tolerate the cold weather until January 1. Then it’s time for spring to get sprung.
