Graduation season is in full swing, and it’s hard to think that I graduated a year ago. Not to the day, but just about. I have been out of school for a whole year now, and it’s really weird. Don’t get me wrong I LOVE not being in school anymore, although I miss my schedule. I didn’t realize how much free time I had until I graduated! But it’s still weird because I’m like an adult or something, which sounds wrong and I definitely feel like a poser.
Now maybe that’s because I have a part-time job while I’m also trying to be an actor and blogger and writer, but that’s how I feel. I just don’t feel like a real adult yet, but I’m getting there probably. But I think that’s how all recent grads feel, and maybe even less recent grads. I know my friends who graduated last year with me feel weird about it, and we were talking about the fact that we’ve been out of school for a year and how not much has seemed to change.
But really it’s just the opposite. A lot has changed for all of us. I mean, I graduated, moved home, worked at home, produced my own show and was in one, moved to Chicago, got a job, got another job, started improv classes, and am auditioning and working on this blog. So yeah, my life is a lot different. A year ago I had no idea where I’d be, but I think that year ago Maggie would be proud of today Maggie. I can only hope.
That leads me to talk about graduation and I am hitting you up recent grads! I hope that you enjoy this time of your life, I know it was one of the best times for me so far. And not to put a damper on your fun, but this next year will be hard. I mean it. Less so if you’re going to grad school, but if you’re headed out into the work force, good luck. It’s gonna be hard and you’re gonna be tired a lot, but it’s SO much better than college. And any school you’ve ever had.
For the first time in your life you don’t have homework, and you have time (well, kind of) to do the things you really want to do. Now if you have the money for it or not is another thing, but I’ll let you know that I get by on my part time job just fine. It’s going to be hard are you’re going to be tired, but it will be worth it. And it gets easier with time, I promise.
