2017 was a big year. For the nation, for the country, for me. While the world seems to be kind of huge mess, I for one have had a messy year as well. But in a good way! It’s definitely been a year this year and 2017 has been memorable to say the least.
This past year I have had a lot happen. And I mean a lot. I quit two jobs, got a new one, got my first paid acting job here in Chicago, and started making money on this bad boy. It’s been a year of new new new for me especially with work. I worked for myself for a while, which I love but wasn’t making enough money at right now. But I actually started to make money from this blog and that is quite an accomplishment for me. I’ve had this blog for three years now and the fact that I’m making money off of it is still baffling to me.
I also have started to make some money acting! That’s the ultimate dream. Not enough to not have a day job obviously, but luckily I really like my day job. Or night job since I work nights! My second acting job is currently underway and I am so happy to be rehearsing and acting again. I’ve been taking improv classes at iO and Second City for the past year. The classes are great and I’m growing as an actor and improviser, but there’s just something about working on a show again that makes me remember why I’m doing what I’m doing.
That reminds me, I also graduated iO last week and am in the Music Improv program at Second City! I’ve loved my training so far, which I should since that’s a big reason I moved here! Taking these classes has given me the space to grow, leap, fall, triumph, and fail as an actor and improviser. Needless to say I’m glad I moved here and that I am able to study at some of the best comedy schools in the country. Maybe, world. I don’t know.
As I look back at where I was a year ago and where I am now, I’m so amazed, happy, and proud. I worked my ass off this year, and I know that I’m far from relaxing anytime soon, but I feel like one of the bigger humps is over. So this year was a big one for me and I’m happy with the work and progress that I’ve made. There have been some humps and bumps, but that’s life. Plus I apparently live my life “roller coaster” style, or so my friends say. I don’t doubt them, but they coined the term, so credit where credit is due! 2017 it’s been a time, but step aside. I have big plans and goals for 2018.
