Sending a card shows you care. Even better if you send them in the mail! I love cards and really have always loved them. But I recently came back into the stationary realm at my job since I work with them a lot. So in the past couple of months I have been slowly but surely building up my stationary and card bin, and I suggest you do the same.
That said, cards are expensive. What I do to avoid paying so much for cards (besides my employee discount) is buy cards out of season. After every major holiday I buy up the cutest (and CHEAP!) cards that I can. This is how I am building up my stationary bin and how I never worry about having to buy a card or rushing out to do so when I forget to buy one.
Now what are cards appropriate for, you ask? Um, like everything: birthdays, weddings, baby showers, bar mitzvahs. Whatever occasion you have, a card can most likely be utilized. You can even send one to someone just because you’re thinking of them. No occasion or birthday, just letting someone know you are thinking about them and you care about them. It really does go a long way. The most important type of card to me is thank you notes.
Thank you notes are a great way to show someone you care or go above and beyond. For example, if a colleague gives you a gift for your birthday or promotion, send them a thank you note! Or if a family member sends you a care package form home, a thank you note is the perfect way to know that you are thinking about them since they thought about you enough to send said package. And don’t forget that Mother’s Day and Father’s Day is coming up soon!
Professional cards also go a long way and can even help your career. Thank you notes sent after an interview can really put you a cut above the rest. The fact that you put in the effort to write out a card and send it off can impressive prospective bosses or hiring managers. Or casting offices actors (wink, wink!)
That said, here are some of my favorite cards right now! Shop till you drop, and don’t forget to buy stamps!
BONUS: Send postcards when you are traveling. Nothing is better than getting a postcard from a fun, foreign place!
