I love breakfast food. To quote the ever-so-wise Ron Swanson, “There has never been a sadness that can’t be curse by breakfast food.” That is absolutely true but it can also cure any happiness, illness, problem, or craving. Ok, so it might not cure any illness but it can cure most cravings.
It cures my cravings that’s for sure. I could eat breakfast food all day. All day, any day. I also do not discriminate on breakfast food, I’ll pretty much eat it all: pancakes, waffles, eggs, bacon, toast, french toast, omelettes. I’ll eat them all and I also wolf it down so fast. I’m telling you I do I eat breakfast food insanely fast for some reason. Ask my mom.
Anyway, the point of me telling you how much I love breakfast food is to point out that I know my brunch. I have a picky palette AND I love breakfast food to my very core. Needless to say I am a breakfast connoisseur, so here are the best breakfast spots in Chicago.
Ann Sather’s – A must stop. If you can only go to one place, pick either this or the Original Pancake House. This Swedish restaurant has some of the best cinnamon rolls ever, but their french toast is amazing too. Mostly because it incorporates their cinnamon rolls…
The Original Pancake House – The OG breakfast spot for me here. I’ve been going here since I was a kid with my parents. This was always a must stop one morning. Obviously their pancakes are what you need, and they’re some of the best I’ve ever had.
The Bourgeois Pig – This is a new stop for me, but it’s so great. They have a bunch of options, but I suggest their waffles. The place is also in an old house and they play jazz standards, which gives it a French feel to it. Hence the Bourgeois, right?
Cozy Corner – This is near my house and it’s so, so fantastic. I eat everything I bought when I got there, which included bacon, eggs, and three pancakes. And they are not stingy on their portions, either. They are only open until three or four so this will need to be legit breakfast or brunch.
Toast – Ok so I haven’t actually been here yet, but I want to go SO BAD. It looks great and they have a BYOB so make your own mimosas! There are multiple locations, and I need to go and so do you.
Bang Bang Pie – This is also near my house and I love it so much. The biscuits are amazing but stay for desert and get a slice of pie. You can do that for breakfast, I promise! They make they own jam and butter too, so you KNOW it’s legit.
Jam and Honey – Another family favorite, this place is breakfast heaven. Go for the eggs and bacon, but stay for the pancakes and french toast. This place can get crowded though so plan accordingly.
Cornerstone Cafe – A great place in Lincoln Park to stop at. We went on a rainy, rainy day so the food was extra comforting. Their pancakes are amazing and I had a super great crepe. Speaking of crepes…
Creperie de Paris – Some great crepes! The crepes are good, but stay for the pink and orange printed walls!
Chicago Bagel Authority – Great bagels and ever greater sandwiches. Is greater a word? Eh well that’s what their sandwiches are. I suggest the Hangover Helper for your daily dose of ham, egg, cheese, and of course their steamed bagels.
